I am a freelance writer and illustrator based in London.

Illustration/design

I specialise in material designed to liven up subjects which are often regarded as dry or technical, such as law, business and IT (my background is in business law) - but I am happy to work on any topic. If required, I can produce both text and visuals (see below).

My illustration work covers cartoons (including cartoon strips and character design), general illustration/design (both hand-drawn and digital/mixed media), slide presentations, book layout, graphic design and logos for traditional and on-line media.

Writing

I specialise in producing user-friendly, accessible materials on complex topics such as law, making use of my own visuals alongside the text.

My published written work includes "Understanding and Negotiating Business Contracts" (How to Books, 2002), which has been described as:

"an excellent first reader for small/medium size businesses wishing to understand and prepare their own business contracts....written in an easily understood, common sense way devoid of complex legal terms and language" (Amazon.co.uk review).

"A straightforward and practical guide to simple business contracts....The style is easy, accessible and avoids jargon. The cartoons are amusing ...... an enjoyable read" (Supply Management)

I have also written an on-line course on contract law for Pearson Education aimed primarily at students on law/business studies courses. The course makes extensive use of interactive exercises and my own illustrations. Click here to view a demo.

Most recently, I have written "Business Law" (Thomson Learning, 2006), a textbook aimed at undergraduates on courses such as business studies, which have a significant law element. The book was written jointly with an academic, Mike Ottley or Greenwich University and aims to explain the law in accessible terms and show how it is relevant to modern business practices. I am happy to accept commissions at short notice and I am used to tight deadlines. If required, I will produce drafts/sketches for approval before producing a finished version. The final results can be sent in hard copy or electronically.
